Intergranular Cracking in Mg-Gd-Y Alloy during Tension Test

نویسندگان

چکیده

The intergranular cracking in the Mg-Gd-Y alloy was investigated by an situ tension test combined with electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) measurement and digital image correlation (DIC). During test, crack found at triangle point of grain boundary area profuse slip traces. DIC results show that inhomogeneous strain distribution can be area, leads to serious deformation incompatibility this point. This also a weak for initiation, as increases, would extend from along boundary.

Superplasticity of a nano-grained Mg–Gd–Y–Zr alloy processed by high-pressure torsion

While most of the reports on Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloys report superplasticity after extrusion or friction stir processing, it is important to investigate superplasticity in these alloys after other severe plastic deformation processes having greater grain refinement capability. Accordingly, superplasticity was studied in an Mg–9Gd–4Y–0.4Zr (GW94) alloy after different high-pressure torsion (HPT) condit...

Effect of solution treatment on stress corrosion cracking behavior of an as-forged Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloy

Effect of solid solution treatment (T4) on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of an as-forged Mg-6.7%Zn-1.3%Y-0.6%Zr (in wt.%) alloy has been investigated using slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) testing in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The results demonstrated that the SCC susceptibility index (ISCC) of as-forged samples was 0.95 and its elongation-to-failure (εf) was only 1.1%. After T4 treatmen...

Effect of LPSO and SFs on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy

High performance Mg-8.2Gd-3.8Y-1.0Zn-0.4Zr alloy with high strength and excellent ductility has been successfully developed by hot extrusion. The effect of plate-shaped long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phases and solute-segregated stacking faults (SFs) on the dynamically recrystallization (DRX) behavior was analyzed. The plate-shaped LPSO phases stimulate the DRX by particle stimulated nucle...

Superplasticity of a fine-grained Mg–1.5 wt% Gd alloy after severe plastic deformation

The strain rate sensitivity (SRS) of Mg–1.5 wt% Gd processed by conventional extrusion and 2 passes of simple shear extrusion (SSE) was investigated by shear punch testing. Shear punch tests were conducted at initial shear strain rates in the range of 0.003–0.3 s-1 and at temperatures in the range of 573–773 K. A fine-grained microstructure with an average grain size of about 2.5 µm, obtained a...

Measurement and Modeling of Crack Conditions during the Environment-assisted Cracking of an Al-zn-mg-cu Alloy

Although it is well known that Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys are susceptible to intergranular environment-assisted cracking (EAC) in some temper conditions, the relative contribution of hydrogen embrittlement (HE) and anodic dissolution (AD) to the crack advance process remains uncertain. This work reports the results of combining experimental and modeling data of crack potentials to help elucidate the ro...
